Linear PCM: The console decodes and outputs all audio as uncompressed multichannel PCM (either 2.1, 5.1 or 7.1 as set in the "audio channels" option, which is separate). What the three options actually do is output a particular audio format, two of which are compressed formats and should only be used for compatibility. The audio settings found in the system menu only refer to what to output game audio and is completely unrelated to blu-ray playback. However, the audio settings and the wording of "Bitstream" is misleading on the PS5 (and also the PS4) as it usually means "player outputs the source audio signal and lets the sound system handle the decoding" but here it means "convert all audio to lossy Dolby Digital or lossy DTS and then send that signal for the sound system to decode". For basically everything else you are correct, though. This is, unfortunately, incorrect advice for the PS5.

What should NOW happen is that your PS5 will now grab the TrueHD Atmos track, and your TV will correctly identify that it is an Atmos track, and your Sonos Arc will also identify that the incoming audio is an Atmos track. What you should have done is set the PS5's Audio Output setting to Bitstream Out, so the PS5 grabs the audio codec(s) that's stored on the BD disc and plays it without transcoding.

The current audio stream is this: Dolby TrueHD 7.1 with Dolby Atmos (Meridian Lossless Packaging Full Bandwidth Audio with 16-channel presentation, *.MLP FBA 16ch)-> Dolby TrueHD 7.1 (Meridian Lossless Packaging, *.MLP) -> Linear Pulse Code Modulation 7.1 (Linear PCM 7.1, *.WAV). You've set your PS5 to transcode all audio content from the original bitstream to Linear PCM 7.1, which is why the S2 app shows the final audio codec as Multichannel PCM. You would imagine we'd only have to fiddle around with the main PS5 sound settings, but nope.they include a "hidden" secondary setting that can only be accessed while the blu-ray is playing via the Options button. Shame on Sony for making it super difficult and unintuitive just to enable Dolby Atmos. The key point was to enable "Bitstream" within that secondary settings menu that can be accessed from the PS5 controller "Options" button while playing the blu-ray disc.

This is how I tested the Dolby Atmos track on my PC and confirmed it's working. My TV is correctly configured with both "eARC Support," "Digital Sound Output = Pass Through" and "HDMI Audio Format = Bitstream" enabled. How can I get Dolby Atmos to play with this blu-ray disc on my PS5? I know for a fact that it's Dolby Atmos-compatible as I can select "English: Dolby Atmos" within its top menu audio settings.įor settings in PS5, I've set "HDMI Device Type = Sound Bar" and "Audio Format (Priority) = Linear PCM."

When I tested the Sonos Arc earlier with a Dolby Atmos test track, the Sonos app would correctly show "Dolby Atmos," so I'm guessing that "Multichannel PCM 7.1" is just generic surround audio? I want to watch this with Dolby Atmos, but when playing the movie, the Sonos app shows the sound as "Multichannel PCM 7.1" - this isn't Dolby Atmos, is it? So I want to watch Game of Thrones 4K UHD HDR blu-ray disc on my PS5 which is outputting sound to a Sonos Arc via HDMI (eARC) connected to my LG C1 OLED TV.
